Helmut Hoinkis, also known by his pseudonym Jeff Wycombe, was a German songwriter and producer from Hamburg. He was a member of the production team MATIZ and is best known for his work with the electronic music project U96, one of the most influential acts in the 1990s Eurodance and techno scene.
Hoinkis played a crucial role in U96’s success, contributing to "Das Boot", a techno adaptation of the theme from the 1981 film of the same name. The track became a massive hit, reaching No. 1 on the German charts and gaining international recognition. His work helped define the signature sound of U96, blending techno beats with cinematic and futuristic elements.
In addition to Das Boot, Hoinkis was involved in other successful U96 tracks such as "Love Sees No Colour" and "Night in Motion", further solidifying the group’s position in the European dance music industry.
